Details of Major Brain Awareness Week Events/Activities:

Brain Awareness Week 2016 The 18th annual Brian Awareness Week – a unique series of lectures about the brain and neuroscience – was held from 14 to 18 March 2016 at the Academy of Sciences building on Národní 3 in Prague. The event is traditionally organized by the Institute of Experimental Medicine AS CR, in cooperation with the Czech Society for Neuroscience and the joint activities of the AS CR. The event itself was preceded by a press conference held on 9. 3. 2016. The press conference was chaired by prof. MD. Eva Syková, prof. MD. Josef Syka, MD., Prof. MD. Karel Sonka, MD. and prof. MD. Richard Rokyta, DrSc. The press conference was attended by five journalists from radio and print media and other guests. The press conference was moderated by Dr. Catherine Sobotková, director of the Division of External Relations of the CAO AS CR. The 2016 Brain Awareness Week featured interesting lecture presentations by 14 leading Czech experts and film screenings by Company “E” – a nonprofit organization that helps people with epilepsy. The lectures were attended by around 1,700 participants with the majority being high school and university students and retirees. Participants could register to attend the lectures via the website, to which audio and video recordings of the lectures were subsequently added in order to reach a wider audience.
